2026: The Year to Try Your Hand at Pottery! By popular demand, after the success of our Loaf wheel throwing experiences, our resident potters have crafted a brand new ten-week course for beginners and improvers. With at least two tutors facilitating each session, you’ll get plenty of guidance and support every step of the way! Course Details: Duration: 10 weeks (with 12 available dates to allow for holidays or sick days) When: Wednesday nights, 7th January to mid-March Where: Our cosy pottery studio at 24 Main Street, Crawfordsburn Spaces: 10 participants (adults 18+ only) What to Expect: Week 1: Introduction – Seize the Clay Get to know the world of ceramics! You’ll learn about different types of clay, the ceramic process, and the equipment you’ll be using. After a short induction, you’ll dive right in—preparing clay for your first wheel throwing or hand building session and exploring some basic techniques. Weeks 2–10: Master the basics of wheel throwing and hand building Learn to centre clay, pull up walls, create various shapes, turn items, and attach handles Use a slab roller and create pieces with drape moulds Experiment with surface decoration using tools and coloured slips Let your creativity shine as you design and personalise your pottery Our Studio: Enjoy two spacious workshop rooms, equipped with: 2 workbenches 6 tabletop wheels 2 sit-down wheels A slab roller and extruder Your creations will be safely stored on-site throughout the course, so you can keep working on them week after week.
